Wish Upon a Wedding's prize winning table!!

Last week, myself, Nadia Ly (owner Creations by Ly and president of the Portland Chapter of Wish Upon a Wedding) and Lisa Martin of Studio del Fiore  concocted a table top for the ISES Portland "Art of the Party" tabletop competition.  The contest was judged by visiting guests Pauline Parry and Dan Smith of Good Gracious! Events of L.A.  I am so tickled to announce our table won "Best Use of Theme"!!

The colors come from the Wish Upon a Wedding log0 (yes, friends, I am not the only one in the world who adores lime/olive/turquoise/teal together :-) The theme of the table was "Blissful Wishes" as that is the theme of the November galas WUW will be hosting all around the country.

Art Of The Party and Wish Upon a Wedding/Portland

Boy howdy, the month of September whipped by in a whirlwind!  Hopefully there'll be plenty of professional photos from all the weddings this month!

Today I'm all about Art of The Party.  Tomorrow night ISES Portland is hosting the first annual Tabletop Competition.  In the spirit of full disclosure, I'm a board member of the Portland chapter and I am because of all the cool things this group does, field trips, education, Pimp My Warehouse - it's very beneficial for my business and it's flippin' FUN!  We're bringing in 2 guests speakers for this meeting - Pauline Parry and Dan Smith of Good Gracious! Events in LA.  They're also our celebrity judges!  For ISES I'm the Registration Czarina (I'm trying out new titles) - if you're in the Portland area, hurry up & register or I'll have to send out the Cossacks after you (note to self:  double check that 'czarina' title actually automatically comes with Cossacks.)

I'm wearing another hat as well tomorrow night - I'm also on the board for the Portland chapter of Wish Upon A Wedding.  "Wish Upon a Wedding is the world's first nonprofit wish granting organization, providing weddings and vow renewals to couples facing terminal illness and serious life altering circumstances, regardless of sexual orientation."  All over the country in the month of November WUAW chapters will be hosting fundraising galas.  I contacted our Portand president, Nadia Ly of Creations by Ly, and asked her if she wanted to do a table with me to promote the November gala and she was all in without hesistation.  The next day brought Lisa Martin of Studio del Fiore as the florist - I'm soooo excited!

Wish Upon A Wedding/Portland's Launch Party is tonight!

The board members' name tags are ready - and so am I!  Tonight is the launch party for the Portland Chapter of Wish Upon A Wedding!

From the home page of Wish Upon A Wedding's website:

"As the World’s first nonprofit wedding wish granting organization, Wish Upon a Wedding provides weddings at destinations across the United States for individuals facing life-threatening illness.  It is a chance for couples to enjoy a very special day, without any thoughts of existing health issues, while surrounded by their closest family and friends."

The national organization launched in January of 2010.  In the past 6 months, Wish Upon A Wedding has granted 4 wedding wishes around the country.  The beautiful and moving videos can be found here.  Go look at them and bring tissues.  While you're there, look at how you can help - if you're a wedding industry professional, become a wish granter.  If there's no chapter near you, start one!  If you're a bride, you can make a donation as your wedding guests' "favors" or request guests make donations in lieu of wedding gifts. 

And why should you become involved?  The Wish Upon A Wedding website says it best:  "By celebrating the courage & spirit of these couples, we help create lasting memories that will be cherished for years to come. It is our hope that others facing similar situations will find hope, strength, and the promise of eternal love."

Wish Upon A Wedding - Portland Wedding Industry ROCKS

I'm happy to say I've been a wedding industry professional in Portland for 4 years.  I've been great people who are passionate about what they do - from planning, to photography & videography, invitations, musicians, caterers - it's been amazing and inspiring.

But never more so than the past week.  I've attended the local chapter meeting of The Association of Bridal Consultants and Wedding Network USA with clip board in hand on behalf of the Portland chapter of Wish Upon A Wedding.  WUW is a national non-profit that grants wedding wishes to terminally ill people.  The Portland chapter is just ramping up, we had our first board meeting a few weeks ago and are putting together a one-sheet with more info and how to get involved.  My clipboard & I are making the rounds to gather intel from people who would like more information on how to get involved.

I am OVERWHELMED (and a bit teary-eyed, although I'll blame that on allergies ;-) at how many people have not only signed up, but stopped me after the meeting or e-mailed me to tell me just how interested they are.  You'll be hearing from us soon - both about how to become a Wish Granter and with details about our launch party!  And Portland ISES and NACE chapters, my clipboard & I will be working our way to you later this month.  If I've missed you somehow and you'd like to get involved, please e-mail me at alesia@alesiazorn.com or leave a comment and I'll get you on the list.

In case you missed the earlier post, Wish Upon A Wedding is the first non-profit organization in the U.S. to grant wedding wishes for terminally ill patients.  If you know someone who may qualify, you can visit the website to request a wedding.

Last week when Sasha Souza was in town she told us about a new nonprofit organization, Wish Upon A Wedding.  It's the first group in the U.S. to grant weddings to terminally ill patients.  Here's the scoop they sent me:

WISH UPON A WEDDING:

· Was founded in San Francisco, CA, in January of 2010, by a group of wedding and business entrepreneurs.

·     Is America’s FIRST nonprofit wedding wish granting organization, producing weddings and civil union ceremonies at destinations across the United States for individuals facing terminal illness, regardless of sexual orientation.

· Boasts twenty chapters nationwide, headed by some of the industry’s most renowned leaders.

· Presidents:

· Ivy Robinson, The Carolinas

· Eliana Baucicault, Atlanta

· Simply apply online to request one of three wedding types: URGENT (Up to 10 guests, in hospital or at bedside); BOUTIQUE (up to 25 guests, in home town of applicant); ROMANTIC (Up to 50 guests, at any WUW destination)

· Wish Granters needed in all locations. Please apply online today to start helping us make Wedding Wishes come true.
